The Tri-Nations sees the best three teams in the southern hemisphere do battle on an annual basis with Australia, New Zealand and South Africa playing each other twice home and away. It is played during July and August so it will provide one of the teams with all the momentum as they head into the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, the All Blacks have dominated the Tri Nations in recent years and they will be the favourites to win again in 2011.
2011 will be the final year the Tri Nations will exist in its current format with Argentina set to join in 2012 to make the Four Nations tournament, that will mean the expansion of the tournament and help the South American team to compete with their more illustrious rivals on a regular basis.
In 2010 the tournament belonged to the All Blacks as they won all six of their matches to comoftably lift the trophy, Australia showed glimpses of class to beat South Africa twice while the Springboks collected the wooden spoon having only won one game out of the six. They will be hoping for a big improvement in 2011 as they build momentum towards the defence of the World Cup they won in 2007.
